Kristen Koci is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology with a focus in environment and community. She is a native Texan who received her BS in Sociology at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Kristen’s co-chairs are Dr. Courtney Flint and Dr. Jessica Ulrich-Schad. Kristen is currently working with Dr. Ulrich-Schad assessing suicide trends as well as individual and community-level contributing factors to suicide deaths in rural natural resource dependent (NRD) places in Utah. Kristen was part of a research team, including Dr. Ulrich-Schad, who recently published a research note in Society & Natural Resources. She also recently published work with Dr. Flint in Water Environment Research. Kristen worked on a book chapter on poverty, health, and healthcare in rural communities in the United States with Dr.’s Ulrich-Schad and Cynthia Mil Duncan that is currently in review.
