Helga Van Miegroet
Helga Van Miegroet is a pursuing a M.S. degree in Sociology with Dr. Christy Glass after a long career in academia. Her research focuses on gender inequalities in academia, with special emphasis on the barriers for career advancement of women in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
She received her MS and PhD in Forest Soils and Nutrient Cycling form the University of Washington in Seattle, and has conducted research of the effects of environmental stressors and management on natural and managed ecosystems.
Helga Van Miegroet was born in Belgium where she spent her early formative years before embarking on the first grand travel adventure to the US as a graduate student. She ceased her scientific nomadic life and settled in Utah in the early 1990s. Since then, she and her husband Anthony have traveled extensively throughout the world and have enjoyed getting to know new peoples, cultures and novel landscapes. They are both avid gardeners, consummate cooks and members of the Slow Food movement.
