Guizhen Ma is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology. Her research interests are in immigration/migration, demography, environmental sociology, and social inequality. She was previously a professor of economics at a Chinese university before she began doctoral study in sociology out of enthusiasm for this amazing field.
Guizhen enjoys both quantitative and qualitative research in sociology, though her current research primarily involves statistical analysis. Under the direction of Dr. Erin Hofmann, she is working on her dissertation research which examines the environmental impact of immigration in the U.S. She uses spatial methods to account for the spatial dependence of air quality and qualitative interview to gain insights into Chinese immigrants’ environmental behavior.
